Lasik Surgery on Your Cornea

Lasik surgery has been around since 1987, and is a great way to end your use of glasses, contact lenses or not being able to see without them. Laser eye surgery can reduce or completely remove the need for any corrective lenses. You will have to go through a screening process for all patients, and of course, an eye exam. It's important before beginning on any laser eye surgery journey. You thoroughly research your doctor, cost, and recovery time.

Not only will you screen, the doctor for the appropriate documentation, schooling and machinery, but also you will be screened your self by the doctor. The doctor will do a thorough examination including a complete health examination to ensure that the surgery procedure cannot only will be a success, but that your body and health will stand up to the surgical procedure itself.

Be sure to be really honest about any health situations you may have and be sure that you thoroughly understand what exactly your doctor's talking about. There are several different procedures concerning using a laser to repair the vision in your eye. An excimer laser technique is often used for correction eye surgery. This type of technique has been in effect since 1987, one of the first of its kind and actually profiles your cornea and eye in order to get the best possible chance of success.

Laser eye surgery is good for both farsightedness and nearsightedness and according to your degree of difficulty is according to the success of improved vision. There's very little pain and recovery times are usually short. You'll be amazed at how improved your vision is from the minute the surgery procedure is done

Doctors cannot promise perfect vision after laser eye surgery, but it is estimated that 90% of laser surgery patients have improved vision. Although some patients experience a full recovery of 20/20 vision, others may still need some form of corrective lenses.

Several different instruments will be used when having laser eye surgery, and a microkreatome is one of the different instruments that is used for laser eye surgery. The excimer usually gives a more precise laser cut but according to the difficulty of repairing your vision different machines may be used. Cool ultraviolet light rays are used to cut the initial flap over the cornea and also remove damaged tissue. The amount of tissue removal is according to the severity of the eye and vision problems. Thorough conversation with your doctor will allow you to understand exactly what's going to be done and the results, and how it will improve your vision.

Once your doctor has removed any damaged tissue within your cornea, he will then reshape the cornea so that you will be able to see better. This is one of the major benefits of Lasik surgery, and either machine will do the job and it's all up to your doctor as to what your particular eye needs, and the tools at hand.
